The Annual Santa Barbara Black History Month
This February, the EYC along with several community agencies and sponsors, held the first ever Black History Month celebration in Santa Barbara! It was a success beyond measure, bringing the community together to celebrate the achievement of African-Americans in Santa Barbara, as well as highlighting the need for continued community support and awareness in regards to the issues facing African-Americans today.

This year's events included the "African-American Cultural Festival," held at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum. The event, hosted by the Brotherhood of Santa Barbara, provided entertainment, education and activities for people of all ages among the beautiful backdrop of Santa Barbara's boat harbor. The day was ended by a charity dinner and dancing program, benefiting the Brotherhood of Santa Barbara.

Additionally, the Inner Light Gospel Choir gave a performance at the Marjorie Luke Theatre; mixing soulful gospel and traditional hymns. The generous sponsors of this event where also hosted at a reception dinner at Aldo's in Santa Barbara; this event provided the EYC an opportunity to recognize their support and belief in the importance of celebrating Black History Month.

For the efforts of the EYC and its partners, the Mayor of Santa Barbara bestowed a Proclamation declaring the importance of this event and the cultural relevance towards the people in Santa Barbara.
